Chapter 28 - The Zero-Day Threat

It was midnight at the Westchester estate, but the private study on the second floor blazed with light. Emily sat at her terminal, her fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard as she ran routine diagnostic scripts on the upcoming global deployment servers.

Suddenly, a series of flashing red warning codes erupted across her dual monitors.

Anomaly detected in decentralized API gateway. Unauthorized proxy injection attempt originating from an offshore routing node.

Emily stopped breathing for a second. Her analytical mind instantly recognized the signature. It wasn't a random hacker attack; it was a sophisticated, targeted zero-day exploit designed to corrupt the core ledger right before the international rollout.

"Vance," she whispered, her jaw tightening into an ironline.

Without hesitation, she pulled up her secure encrypted comms channel and patched directly into Jonathan Sterling's private residence.

"Jonathan," Emily said the moment the line connected. "Wake up. We have an active cyber intrusion."

"I'm awake," Jonathan’s grave voice came through the speaker. "I just received an automated security alert from our cloud infrastructure provider. Someone is attempting a high-level data corruption strike."

"It's Marcus Thorne acting on behalf of Vance," Emily said decisively, her fingers flying across the keys to isolate the corrupted subnet. "They're trying to sabotage our global launch. But they made one fatal mistake."

"What's that?" Jonathan asked.

"They routed the proxy through a server farm in the Cayman Islands that we flagged and honey-potted three weeks ago," Emily’s eyes flashed with fierce triumph. "Every packet of malicious code they're sending is being mirrored, recorded, and traced directly back to their primary command terminal in Manhattan."
