Chapter 16

The Lawson partnership launched six months later.

It became the biggest project of my career.

We built clinic support systems across the state.

Scheduling.

Patient outreach.

Staff training.

Community health partnerships.

My proposal became a real thing with real people helped by it.

At the launch event, Mr. Lawson introduced me as “the architect of this partnership.”

Architect.

Not wife.

Not victim.

Not woman with dramatic husband.

Architect.

I stood at the podium and looked at the room.

Denise in the front row.

Maya near the back, crying openly.

Karen and Alicia pretending not to be proud.

I said, “This project survived because the right people protected the work instead of the person trying to control it.”

No one needed me to say Daniel’s name.
