Chapter 15 - THE FALL

Three days later, Sebastian did the unthinkable.

He did not confess. He did not turn himself in. Instead, he issued a statement.

He announced that his daughter had been found — and that she had been kidnapped by a dangerous criminal network. He named me. Elena. David. He claimed we were holding Mia hostage, forcing her to make false claims against him. He claimed we were demanding ransom — billions of dollars — in exchange for her safety.

He called in the police. He called in the FBI. He issued a nationwide alert.

And he ended his statement with a single, chilling line: “Bring my daughter home. And arrest the monsters who stole her from me.”

The world believed him.

By evening, every news channel was broadcasting the story. Photographs of me. Of Elena. Of David. Stories about how we had manipulated a grieving widower. How we had exploited a child. How we had threatened to destroy a good man’s reputation for money.

Mia watched the reports with us, her face pale but calm.

“He is lying,” she said simply. “He knows he is lying. And I know the truth.”

“It does not matter,” I said, pacing the room. “The police are hunting us. We are surrounded. If they find us — Sebastian will take you. And this time — he will never let you go.”

“Then we fight back,” Mia said. “We release the evidence. We show everyone what he did.”

“We cannot,” Elena said quietly. “Not yet. If we release everything — Sebastian will destroy it. He will claim it is all forged. He has the money. The power. The influence. He will bury the truth under a mountain of lies.”

“Then what do we do?” Mia demanded. “Hide forever? Let him win?”

“Grace anticipated this,” I said. “She knew Sebastian would not keep his word. She left a backup plan. Hidden away. To be used only if he turned against us.”

“What plan?” Elena asked.

I pulled out a sealed envelope from the safe. Grace had left it there, marked ONLY TO BE OPENED IF SEBASTIAN ATTACKS.

I broke the seal and read aloud.

*“If you are reading this — Sebastian has declared war. He has chosen to destroy you rather than repent. So be it.”*

*“Inside this envelope is the name and location of Sebastian’s only weakness — his illegitimate son. A boy he has hidden away for years. The brother Mia never knew existed. If Sebastian has an heir — a son — then Mia’s claim to his fortune is no longer absolute. But this boy — he knows the truth about his father. He knows everything. He has proof. Witnesses. Testimony. And he has been waiting for years to expose Sebastian himself.”*

The room fell silent.

“A son?” Elena whispered. “Sebastian has another child?”

“Grace found him,” I said. “She found him years ago. She protected him. She paid for his education. She told him — if the time ever came — he would have a choice to make.”

I looked at the name written on the paper.

“His name is Julian,” I said. “And he lives less than an hour from here.”
