Chapter 29 - JASON AND I TALKYears after Linda's death, Jason and I sat at Owen's high-school graduation.

Our son crossed the stage.
We both cried.
Afterward Jason said:
“Remember when he carried my phone?”
“Yes.”
“I spent years wishing he hadn't.”
I looked at him.
“And now?”
“I’m glad he did.”
Interesting.
“Why?”
“Because if plan worked, I would have spent years convincing myself I was right.”
He looked toward Owen laughing with friends.
“I would've taught him the same thing Mom taught me.”
Silence.
Then:
“Sometimes getting caught saves you from becoming worse.”
I nodded.
Not always.
But sometimes.
We did not become friends exactly.
May you like
We became respectful co-parents who shared history without needing to rewrite it.
Enough.
