Chapter 18 - OWEN’S FIFTH BIRTHDAYWe held two birthday celebrations.

Not one tense combined party.

Mine Saturday.

Jason's Sunday.

Owen loved both.

Children often tolerate separate cakes better than adults tolerate separate identities.

Linda was permitted supervised attendance at Jason's party under updated agreement.

I worried.

Then reminded myself:

Not my time.

Not my house.

If safety rules followed, Jason parented.

I let go.

Hard.

Necessary.

Owen came home carrying a toy truck.

“Grandma said sorry.”

I froze.

“For what?”

“She said grown-ups did bad talking.”

Not perfect.

But age-appropriate.

“Did she tell you anything about me?”

“No.”

May you like

Good.

Boundaries working.
