Chapter 7 - Reclaiming the Foundation

A month after the trial, the River Oaks estate underwent a complete transformation.
The heavy, dark drapes and traditional furniture that Margaret had insisted on during Claire's marriage were completely cleared out. Professional interior designers moved in, filling the spaces with soft cream linen, modern art, warm oak accents, and sprawling floor-to-ceiling glass doors that opened onto a newly landscaped garden.
Claire stood on the back patio, sipping tea, watching workers install a beautiful stone fountain in the center of the lawn.
Daniel walked out onto the patio, holding an iPad. "Madam President, the final accounting for the River Oaks property renovation is complete. Also, the corporate public relations firm has successfully managed the news coverage; Sterling Crest's stock value has risen four percent this quarter."
"Thank you, Daniel," Claire smiled warmly. "And what about Margaret Vance?"
"As part of her plea agreement, she received three years of probation and community service," Daniel reported. "She has relocated to a small retirement apartment in San Antonio, living off her basic social security check. She tried to contact our office twice last week asking for financial aid, but legal blocked her number."
"Good," Claire said, looking out at the garden. "She spent seven years telling me I was worthless because I couldn't fulfill her expectations. Now she has all the time in the world to reflect on her own worth."
"And Chloe Cross?" Claire asked.
"She gave birth to a healthy baby boy two weeks ago in Austin," Daniel replied softly. "Victor Cross has set up a private trust fund for the child's education, but he has stripped Chloe of her corporate voting rights until she completes her business degree. The birth certificate lists the father as 'Unknown,' completely insulating the child from Ethan's legal debt."
Claire felt a quiet sense of peace settle over her heart. The child was safe, shielded from the toxic legacy of Ethan and Margaret. Justice had been served without collateral damage to an innocent life.
"Madam President," Daniel added with a slight smile. "There is one more thing. Architect Julian Vance is waiting in the drawing room to present the final blueprints for the new Sterling Crest Community Center for Women."
Claire turned around, her eyes brightening. "Julian is here?"
May you like
Julian Vance was an acclaimed, world-renowned architect who had worked with Sterling Crest on several international development projects over the past three years. Unlike Ethan, Julian was a man of deep intellect, quiet strength, and genuine humility. For years, he had quietly admired Claire from afar, treating her with absolute respect long before he ever knew the full depth of her corporate story.
"Show him in, Daniel," Claire said, her heart fluttering with a gentle warmth she hadn't felt in years.
