Chapter 16 - Noah at ElevenThree years passed.

Noah grew taller.

His communication changed.

He used AAC fluently.

Some spoken words emerged when he wanted them.

Nobody treated speech as graduation.

The device remained.

At eleven he joined a junior fire-safety club at Station 14.

Captain Ramirez still remembered him.

Noah remembered the engine number.

“Fourteen.”

One spoken word.

Ramirez smiled but did not applaud.

Good.

No performance.

They practiced emergency plans.

How to identify exits.

How to communicate address.

How to show responders an emergency card.

Noah helped design a picture-based emergency board.

That became his project.

Not because Halloween “made him stronger.”

Because he liked emergency systems.

When people suggested his experience inspired him, Melissa corrected:

“He loved fire safety before Evelyn Parker.”

Trauma did not deserve credit for his interests.

Jake came home from college during winter break.

Noah met him at the door.

“Jake.”

Jake froze.

Noah pointed to his suitcase.

Then used AAC:

YOUR ROOM MINE NOW.

Jake stared.

“What?”

Melissa shouted from the kitchen:

“We converted half of it into Noah’s Lego room.”

“Betrayal.”

May you like

Noah smiled.

Family progress.
