Chapter 15 - Evelyn’s Counseling ReportEvelyn completed court-required counseling.

A review hearing considered reducing supervision conditions.
Melissa did not attend.
Maya did.
The counselor’s report was confidential except for broad compliance findings.
Evelyn participated.
Accepted responsibility increasingly over time.
Initially blamed stress.
Then HOA conflict.
Then Noah’s “failure to follow social expectations.”
That last phrase troubled the therapist.
Eventually Evelyn recognized the core belief:
She had considered her preferred social behavior more legitimate than Noah’s way of communicating.
And considered her authority permission to enforce it.
Noah’s autism was not the cause.
Evelyn’s entitlement was.
The judge extended no-contact conditions regardless.
Evelyn complied.
Thomas Parker later told Melissa his mother had changed.
Melissa answered:
“I hope so.”
That was all.
She did not need proof.
Evelyn’s growth belonged to Evelyn.
Noah’s life belonged to Noah.
Then Thomas said:
“She wants to know if he’s okay.”
Melissa paused.
“He’s good.”
“Can I tell her?”
“Yes.”

Nothing more.
Sometimes one factual sentence was enough mercy.
