Chapter 8 - The Ghost Awakens

Naomi used the leader's own momentum to throw his massive body into the brick wall.
He collapsed in a heap, unconscious before he even hit the ground.
The second thug pulled a knife, his eyes wide with sudden, genuine panic.
He slashed blindly toward Naomi's stomach.
She easily deflected his arm, delivered a brutal strike to his throat, and kicked his knee out from under him.
He dropped to the pavement, choking and gasping desperately for air.
The third thug, a massive guy weighing nearly three hundred pounds, froze in his tracks.
He looked at his two broken friends bleeding on the wet concrete.
Then he looked at the small, dark-haired housekeeper standing perfectly still in the rain.
Naomi wasn't even breathing heavily.
She picked up the metal pipe from the ground and looked at the terrified giant.
"Run," she told him in a voice as cold as ice.
The massive thug turned around and sprinted out of the alley as fast as his legs could carry him.
Naomi dropped the pipe and picked up her ruined bag of groceries.
She walked into her apartment building, calmly locked her door, and pulled out a secure, encrypted phone she hadn't used in a year.
She dialed a number, waiting for the familiar click on the other end.
"Margaret," Naomi said smoothly. "I need a favor."
The retired instructor on the other end chuckled softly.
"I heard about the engagement party, Naomi," Margaret replied. "Do you need a cleanup crew?"
"No," Naomi answered, looking at the rain beating against her window.
"I need you to dig into the Sterling family's offshore accounts."
"Vanessa decided to send armed men to my home tonight."
The amusement instantly vanished from Margaret's voice.
"I will have their entire financial history on your desk by morning," Margaret promised coldly.
Naomi hung up the phone.

She had tried to live a peaceful life.
But Vanessa wanted a war, and Naomi was going to give her a masterclass in total destruction.
