Chapter 20 - The Unbreakable Bond

One year later, the harsh winter storms had passed, giving way to a brilliant, beautiful spring in Boston.
Whitmore House was entirely transformed, no longer a cold museum of elite social rules and fake smiles.
It was a home filled with warmth, laughter, and genuine peace.
Naomi sat on the edge of the grand stone fountain in the center of the garden, enjoying the bright sunlight.
Her security firm, Aegis Consulting, had become the most respected agency on the entire East Coast.
She had hired a team of loyal, highly trained professionals, completely leaving her solitary, dangerous life behind.
Vanessa Sterling was currently serving a thirty-year sentence in a maximum-security federal facility, completely forgotten by high society.
Ethan walked out of the massive glass doors of the conservatory, carrying two glasses of iced tea.
He looked happier and healthier than he had ever been in his entire life.
He handed a glass to Naomi and sat closely beside her on the stone edge.
"I just got off the phone with the board of directors," Ethan smiled gently.
"My new tech initiative just officially launched in twenty different countries."
"Congratulations, Mr. Whitmore," Naomi teased affectionately, bumping her shoulder against his.
"I think we make a pretty incredible team."
Ethan set his glass down on the stone and suddenly turned to fully face her.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, simple black velvet box.
It was not a massive, flashy diamond meant to show off his unimaginable wealth to the media.
It was a beautiful, elegant vintage ring that he had spent months searching for because it matched her quiet strength.
"We make the best team in the world, Naomi," Ethan said, his voice thick with genuine, overwhelming emotion.
"You taught me how to actually fight for what I believe in."
"You gave me my life back."
Ethan slowly opened the box, his eyes never leaving hers for a single second.
"Will you marry me, Naomi?" he asked softly.
Naomi looked at the man who had seen all her scars and loved her anyway.
She didn't need to protect her heart from him anymore.
"Yes," Naomi smiled, a single tear of pure joy falling down her cheek. "Absolutely yes."
Ethan slid the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss beneath the warm sun.
They had fought through darkness, betrayal, and violence to find each other.
