Chapter 11

Gavin asked for one meeting.

Sienna agreed.

No children.

No Nico.

Attorneys present.

Gavin looked exhausted.

His wedding ring remained on his hand.

Sienna noticed.

She had removed hers before leaving the hospital.

He saw her bare finger.

His face changed.

“Sienna.”

“Start with the power.”

He looked down.

“I should have told you it was still active.”

“Yes.”

“I thought you knew at first.”

“At first?”

“When I added it to Southline.”

“Four years ago.”

“Yes.”

“And after that?”

He swallowed.

“I knew you probably didn’t remember the details.”

“Probably?”

“I knew.”

Sienna nodded.

“Good. Keep going.”

Gavin described the first related-party loan.

Cole Meridian needed temporary liquidity.

He knew Sienna would want to involve Nico.

Gavin hated that.

Every time Ferrante money entered a conversation, Gavin felt like the younger man who had married into a family that measured him against Nico’s power.

So he used the existing authority.

The loan was repaid.

No damage.

That success became his justification.

“I told myself I had proven I could handle it.”

Sienna stared.

“You proved you could hide it.”

He looked away.

Then the Milwaukee project began failing.

Gavin believed one successful refinance could repair everything.

Marjorie agreed.

They planned to tell Sienna afterward if necessary.

Or not at all if Southline remained healthy.

“You wanted me to have your baby while you mortgaged my company.”

Gavin began crying.

“I didn’t think of it that way.”

“That’s the problem.”

He looked at her.

“I love you.”

Sienna’s expression did not change.

“I believe you.”

That surprised him.

She continued.

“You loving me is not the question.”

Silence.

“The question is why loving me never required you to let me make my own decision.”

Gavin had no answer.

She asked:

“Why did you shove me?”

His face collapsed.

“I panicked.”

“You could have hurt Julian.”

“I know.”

“You could have put me on the ground at thirty-eight weeks.”

“I know.”

“Mila saw it.”

He closed his eyes.

“I know.”

Sienna leaned back.

“You keep saying you know now.”

He opened his eyes.

“I can’t change that.”

“No.”

She stood slowly.

“But I can change what happens next.”

She placed divorce papers on the table.

Gavin stared at them.

The marriage was over.

Not because Milwaukee failed.

Not because Nico hated him.

May you like

Not because Marjorie interfered.

Because Gavin had built a system inside the marriage where Sienna’s signature mattered more than her actual yes.
