Chapter 2 - A Dangerous Discovery.

The mansion was completely silent as the grandfather clock struck midnight.
Carla slipped out through the servant's entrance and hurried down the dark street.
She knew a retired pharmacist named Albert who owed her late husband a favor.
Albert lived just a few blocks away in a small, cluttered apartment above his old shop.
When Carla arrived, she handed him the napkin and begged him to test the substance.
The old man used his vintage chemistry set, his eyes widening as the liquid turned a deep purple.
"Carla, where did you find this?" Albert asked, his voice trembling with genuine fear.
She explained that it belonged to the private doctor of Massimo Rinaldi.
Albert took a deep breath and revealed the horrifying reality of the medication.
It was not a painkiller, but a rare, slow-acting paralytic neurotoxin.
If someone took this daily, their nerves would remain completely blocked.
They would never be able to walk, trapped in their own body forever.
Carla felt her heart pound furiously against her ribs as the pieces fell into place.

Massimo was not permanently paralyzed from the ambush at all.
He was being kept in that wheelchair on purpose by the people he trusted the most.
