Chapter 7 - The Burning Ground

Eleanor looked absolutely terrifying, her expensive evening gown ruined and her eyes burning with pure madness.

She had completely bypassed the police at the hotel and used her endless wealth to hire a private hit squad.

She ordered her mercenaries to completely disarm the corrupt attorney and force Margaret to her knees.

Margaret screamed in terror, dropping the yellow envelope containing the blueprints onto the dirty concrete floor.

Eleanor laughed a cold, soulless laugh that echoed terribly through the cavernous, empty factory.

She announced that she was going to burn this entire building to the ground with everyone trapped inside.

She planned to blame the catastrophic fire on a tragic industrial accident, effectively erasing her sister and my parents forever.

She ordered her men to begin pouring highly flammable chemical barrels all across the wooden support beams.

Arthur looked at me with absolute panic, realizing his mother had completely lost her mind.

He whispered that he was going to surrender himself to his mother to buy me enough time to free my parents.

Before I could stop him, Arthur stepped entirely out of the shadows with his hands raised high in the air.

Eleanor turned toward him, her face twisting in shock as she realized her son was actually here.

Arthur loudly begged his mother to stop this absolute madness, offering to sign away everything if she just let everyone go.

While Eleanor was completely distracted by arguing with her son, I crawled silently through the dark shadows.

I reached the center of the room and grabbed the dropped yellow envelope, stuffing it deep into my torn dress.

I pulled a small piece of broken glass from the floor and began frantically sawing at the thick zip ties binding my parents.

My father whispered my name in sheer relief as his hands finally sprang completely free.

He quickly untied my weeping mother, and we prepared to make a desperate run for the rear exit.

But Eleanor suddenly noticed the movement in the center of the room and screamed in absolute fury.

She raised her automatic weapon and fired wildly into the air, the loud shots deafening in the enclosed space.

She pulled a flare from her pocket, ignited it, and tossed it directly into the puddle of spilled chemicals.

A massive wall of blinding orange fire instantly erupted between us and the only safe exit.
